How To Find A Bra To Fit You

Author: Jen P Carter

Many women mistakenly choose bras that dont fit, either because they dont know their correct size or dont know how to determine their size. Plus size women are no exception when it comes to this. Wearing the incorrect size bra can cause many problems, including leaving welts on your skin because the straps are cutting into your shoulders. Additionally, too-small bras can create unattractive bulge and painful friction. There are several ways how to find a bra to fit, and for plus sizes who need the support of a well-fitting bra these tips are very important.

Your first step on how to find a bra to fit involves using a measuring tape. In order to ensure proper measurements are taken, you want to measure on a completely bare chest. First, take the measuring tape and measure around your rib cage, just beneath your breasts. When youve found this measurement, add either 4 or 5 inches in order to create an even number. The number you come up with indicates the appropriate band size for a bra that will fit you. This is especially important for plus sizes, because an ill fitting bra does not give them the comfort and support they need.

Secondly, how to find a bra to fit involves measuring the widest part of your bust. Slide the measuring tape around the middle of your back, and take care to hold it as steady as possible so you get an accurate number. Once youve done this, youll want to take note of the difference between the two measurements youve gotten thus far. For larger busted women, use the following numbers as a general guide to your cup size. If the number is 2 to 3 inches larger than your band size, you are a C cup. For D cups, your number will be 3 to 4 inches larger than your band size, and for DD or E cups your measurement will be 4 to 5 inches larger than your band size.

These measurements are very important for plus sizes, and determine how to find a bra to fit. Once youve secured these two measurements, youll want to select a variety of bras to try on that meet your size requirements. When you try on a bra, youll want to place your hands through the bra straps and bend over to allow your breasts to fall into the cups. With the exception of demibras or enhancers, the cups should fully contain your bust and your nipple should be centered in the fullest part of the bra.

When sizing up your bra, make sure that the band does not cut into your ribcage. It needs to be snug, but if its leaving visible marks on your skin the bra is too small. If the bra has a multi-hook closure, check to see if you can adjust that first before graduating to a larger size bra. When trying on bras, you may need to adjust the straps so that they feel comfortable to you. If youre constantly pulling on the straps or your bust is falling out, your band size is too large and youll want to move to a smaller size.

Also keep in mind that when determining how to find a bra to fit, if the material between your breasts doesnt lie flat, youll need to try a larger cup size. Conversely, if the material puckers or wrinkles you want to try a smaller cup size to ensure a great fitting bra. Subsequently, if the bra does not contain your breasts its too small, and if there are wrinkles in the cup material youll need to move down a cup size.

When discovering how to find a bra to fit, you must remember that different bra manufacturers have different sizes. Youll need to experiment with a variety of brands and sizes to find your perfect fit. Use your measurements as a guideline for the size you need, but once you find a perfect bra snatch up two or three of them! A well fitting bra does wonders for your bust and self-esteem, and will ensure a comfortable feel every time you wear it.
